What is micro-needling?
Micro-needling is a minimally invasive technique that helps in the production of collagen, the protein found throughout your body. It gives structure to your skin, bones, muscles, and other connective tissues. When you start to age, your body fails to produce the amount of collagen needed to have youthful skin. As a result, you start to show early signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation. Your age spots, acne scars, and blemishes start to appear more distinctly, making you look old and tired.
How it works.
Innovative MedSpa uses SkinPen Precision. It is the only FDA approved micro-needling device. The SkinPen uses needles to puncture hundreds of microscopic channels in your skin. This, in turn, stimulates collagen and elastin production that improves the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, pores, scars, and uneven skin tone by plumping and restoring the skin from underneath. A topical numbing cream is applied and the procedure only takes about 20-30 minutes
The benefits.
Micro-needling addresses many skin related problems such as wrinkles, fine lines, acne, scars, and hyperpigmentation. It can be used to deposit medication, such as topical tretinoin or Vitamin C, or even your own blood plasma, deeper into the skin. The micro-channels also allow your skin to better absorb skincare products. The skincare products penetrate the skin through the micro-channels and are absorbed into the deeper layers of your skin, giving you more effective and astounding results. There is minimal to no downtime associated with the procedure.
What to expect.
Even though there is no downtime after the procedure, you may experience some redness and tenderness immediately after treatment and up to 48 hours after. It takes approximately 4 weeks for the new, even, healthy, skin to be revealed and there will be continued improvement in the weeks to follow. The amount of treatments you need depends on your skin condition and its severity. Normally every 4 to 6 weeks you will need a treatment until you achieve the results you are looking for.
The Do’s & Don’ts.
You should stop using retinoids and other medicated skincare products for about a week before and after the treatment. Taking Tylenol before coming in is helpful. After treatment, you will be given cleansers and hydration products for your skin while you are healing. Additionally, you must wear sunscreen of at least 70SPF. Avoid retinoids for a week after treatment. You should avoid swimming, exercise, or make up for 24 hours after treatment. After 48 to 72 hours, you can return to your regular skincare regimen.
