PRP for Skin Resurfacing

An all natural, highly effective method of harnessing the body’s power to heal itself and rejuvenate your skin.

What is PRP?

To understand what PRP skin resurfacing is, you must first understand what PRP is. Our blood is made up of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Each one has a responsibility in keeping us healthy. The white blood cells protect our body against infectious diseases and foreign invaders, the red blood cells carry oxygen and remove carbon dioxide from the body. The plasma carries blood cells and nutrients throughout our body and platelets, which are rich in growth factor stimulate tissue recovery by increasing blood flow and cytokines.

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. When we are injured and we start to bleed, the platelets signal the cells to function. They play the role of a messenger, rush to the site of injury, plug and form a clot and repair the damage. The medical world is taking advantage of this role and making use of PRP in several treatments such as skin resurfacing, hair growth, and joint pain among others.

How Does Skin Resurfacing with PRP Work?

Platelets play a vital role in improving our overall health. In cosmetic medicine, the platelet is used to give you youthful skin. For this purpose, the platelets are first separated from your blood. The procedure begins with blood drawn from you and transferred into a vial. The vile is placed in a centrifuge, which rotates rapidly forcing the heaviest particles to settle to the bottom of the vial. The red blood cells settle to the bottom followed by white blood cells and platelet-rich plasma, followed by platelet poor plasma. The poor platelet plasma is removed and the vial is placed again in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma and white blood cells. PRP is removed using a syringe for use in the treatment.

The PRP that is taken from your blood is injected under your skin for the following benefits:

  • To increase the collagen production
  • To reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
To tighten the skin and make it firmer
  • To improve moisture retention
  • To enhance the skin tone and texture.

PRP skin resurfacing is a non-surgical treatment which reduces the risks and side effects associated with other surgical skin resurfacing treatments like a facelift. The procedure is simple, long lasting, and has minimal or no downtime. Though the results are noticed a week after the treatment, your skin appearance continues to improve in the following weeks as your body begins to produce natural collagen. The most intriguing benefit of PRP skin resurfacing treatment is that there are no infections, allergic reactions, or rejection of the treatment as it is all natural, and the ingredients are extracted from your body.

What to Expect from the Procedure

At Innovative MedSpa, your treatment begins with a consultation with our experienced healthcare provider who will determine if you are an ideal candidate for the procedure. Your medical history, present medical condition, allergies, and medications are reviewed along with a physical examination to determine whether you are an ideal candidate for PRP skin resurfacing treatment or not. A blood test and skin biopsy may be prescribed to further clarify that this procedure presents no threat to you. The healthcare provider may also change your medications and suggest a pre-treatment skin care regime. A treatment plan is created based on the depth of the damage on your facial skin.

On the day of the treatment, blood is drawn from you and the PRP is separated from it. The targeted area is cleaned with a disinfectant or an antiseptic. The area is marked according to the treatment plan. The area is numbed using an anesthetic cream to avoid any discomfort during the procedure. The PRP that is separated from your blood is then injected into the area using a narrow needle. Our healthcare providers may suggest combining the PRP skin resurfacing treatment with micro-needling to get better results.

The treated area may look bruised and swollen for a couple of days after the treatment. You will be given post-treatment care to avoid any possible side effects. Usually, the results can be seen a week after the first treatment and they continue to improve with time. The number of procedures required varies depending on the depth of the skin imperfections.

Is PRP Skin Rejuvenation Right for You?

PRP skin resurfacing is considered suitable for everybody as it is all natural, but there are a few restrictions associated with this procedure. To determine if you are an ideal candidate, answer the following questions:

  • Are you under 18 years of age?
  • Are you a smoker?
  • Do you take drugs?
  • Do you drink regularly?
  • Have you had any facial rejuvenation treatments recently?
  • Do you take blood thinners or have bleeding problems?
  • Do you have diabetes, cancer, thyroid problems, or high blood pressure?

If you have answered yes to any of the above questions, then you’ll want to consult with us to determine a substitute treatment that is best for you. Book an appointment with Innovative MedSpa and our healthcare providers will determine if you are an ideal candidate based on your present health condition and the condition of your skin texture.
