What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a process by which laser technology is used to remove facial wrinkles and lines, to remove acne scars, blemishes, age spots and sun spots, to correct uneven skin tone, and other facial skin imperfections. It is also known as a laser peel, lasabrasion, and laser vaporization.

How does the Procedure Work?

In laser skin resurfacing, short, highly concentrated beams of light energy are targeted at the facial skin. The intense, pulsating light energy then removes imperfections or damages on the facial skin in a very precise and accurate manner, one layer at a time. The result is a fresh, radiant, and glowing skin that makes you look youthful and aesthetically appealing, not to mention that it makes you feel more comfortable and confident with yourself.

At Innovative MedSpa, we offer laser skin resurfacing using Cynosure Palomar laser – a well-known brand in the industry that all top professionals use. With this laser, we have successfully treated many patients with skin irregularities, adding them to our long list of happy and loyal clients.

What to Expect During a Laser Skin Resurfacing Session

Before you start your actual laser skin resurfacing treatment, you may have to first go through a series of skin treatments that have been specially designed for you. These treatments will help prepare your skin for the procedure and keep it in optimal condition to receive the laser skin resurfacing treatment. Usually, these series of treatments start six weeks before the actual procedure. Our team at Innovative MedSpa will customize this treatment plan especially for you, tailored to meet the needs of your skin type and other factors so that you can obtain the best results from your laser resurfacing treatment.

Depending on the area to be treated and other individual factors, laser skin resurfacing takes from 30 minutes to a maximum of 2 hours. It is an outpatient procedure, which means that you can go home right after the treatment without having to spend a night at the facility.

At Innovative MedSpa, we take every step possible to ensure your comfort and safety during the procedure. We understand that laser skin resurfacing can cause pain and discomfort, which is why we go above and beyond to ensure that you feel at home with us. A local anesthetic is administered to numb the skin. Then, your facial skin is cleaned thoroughly so that any excess dirt, oil, and bacteria can be removed.

Then, using the Cynosure Palomar laser, the actual laser skin resurfacing treatment begins. This laser is known for its precision and accuracy, which means that only the targeted area is affected by the laser, and the surrounding tissue and skin remain untouched. This greatly enhances the safety of the procedure.

After the session is completed, the area is wrapped using specialized dressing to provide protection and facilitate healing. After your procedure, you will need to come back to our facility for dressing changes and other treatments.

Recovery Information

To ensure that your skin heals properly, you will need some recovery time. Plus, if you give yourself some downtime, risks for side effects are reduced, and you can be certain that you achieve the results you want with no complications.

Usually, healing after laser skin resurfacing treatment takes anywhere between three to ten days. The larger the area and the deeper the laser penetration, the longer you will need to recover. It is normal to experience redness in the skin during the recovery period. You are also likely to develop scabs. Don’t get alarmed by these as it is all part of the healing process. You may also experience swelling, which you can treat using ice packs. There will also be slight peeling of the skin in the area that was treated.

It is important to avoid environments where you can easily get infections during your recovery period. For example, you may want to avoid the gym for some time until you are completely healed.
