Who doesn’t dream of voluminous hair to go with their well-sculpted body and a youthful face? You may do everything in life to stay healthy, eat right, exercise, follow a good skin care regimen as well as a good hair care regimen. But at some point, in life, you may face a receding hairline, male pattern baldness, excessive hair loss, or similar conditions. Early onset of hair loss and getting bald is a common phenomenon. There are several reasons you may experience hair loss, some of which may not be under your control. But what is essential is to know how to get back the lost hair.
What Exactly is PRP?
PRP stands for platelet rich plasma. Your blood consists of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. The plasma carries blood cells and nutrients throughout your body. The plasma in our blood contains white blood cells and platelets. What happens when you are injured, and you start to bleed? Have you ever thought of it? When you bleed, the platelets in the blood, which are rich in growth factor, plug the bleeding and form a clot. Platelets are tiny cells in the blood that rush to the site of injury to repair the damage. They play the role of a messenger and signal your skin cells to repair. They increase the blood flow and cytokines and in turn, stimulate tissue recovery. Platelet-rich plasma is a concentration of plasma with platelets. It is a processed blood plasma from which the red blood cells and white blood cells are removed.
What Causes Hair Loss?
There are several reasons why you may be losing your hair. While sometimes the hair loss is temporary, others lead to alopecia, commonly known as baldness. Hair loss can happen in different forms, like thinning on the crown, a receding hairline, or thinning along the hair parting. The main cause can be any of the following:
- Inflammation of the hair follicles caused by excessive hair styling, chemical hair products.
- Poor hair care regimen.
- Pollution, smoking, and other external causes.
- Medical conditions such as scalp infections and trichotillomania.
- Hormonal changes at any stage in life.
- Radiation therapy to the head.
- Medications used for depression, heart problems, cancer, high blood pressure, and such.
- An incident of physical or emotional shock that has led to stress. Usually, hair loss caused by stress is temporary.
- A family history of baldness. Alopecia in this case usually occurs in a predictable pattern.
Age is another factor that may cause alopecia, but not every person who ages has to lose hair. Other factors such as your health conditions, present treatments, and such, combined with your age may be a reason for hair loss and baldness. As the causes of hair loss change from one person to another, the treatment may also vary.
Fight Back Against Hair Loss
Are you a victim of excessive hair loss? Have you looked into PRP therapy? Platelet Rich Plasma rejuvenation therapy has been showing a lot of success in recent times in treating alopecia or baldness. In this process, blood is drawn from you and transferred into a vial. The vial is placed in a centrifuge, which is a machine used by scientists to isolate the solids from the liquids in any solution. The centrifuge rotates rapidly and forces the heavy particles to settle down in the vial. The red blood cells are the heaviest particles in your blood which are forced to the bottom of the vial. The platelet-rich plasma and white blood cells settle on top of the red blood cells followed by the platelet-rich plasma. The platelet- rich plasma is removed and the vial is placed in the centrifuge again to separate the white blood cells from the platelet rich plasma. The PRP is then removed using a syringe, to be injected into your scalp.
What to Expect During PRP Therapy for Hair Restoration
As with every treatment at Innovative MedSpa, your PRP hair treatment procedure starts with a consultation with our experienced healthcare provider. Your medical history, present medical condition, medications, and allergies are reviewed to determine whether you are an ideal candidate for the procedure or not. They may also conduct a physical examination, recommend blood tests, and a scalp biopsy to determine your eligibility for the treatment. If you are a suitable candidate, a treatment plan is made.
The treatment process begins by drawing blood from you on the day of the treatment. The PRP is separated from the blood. The targeted area on your scalp is cleaned using a disinfectant and the injection sites are marked. The targeted area is numbed using local anesthesia to avoid any discomfort during the process. The PRP is drawn into a syringe and injected into the marked injection sites on the scalp. Sometimes micro-needling is combined with this procedure for better results.
You may experience some tenderness, a feeling of tightness and minimal pain in the area that was treated. It is a common side effect of the treatment and does not last more than a couple of days. After-treatment care is suggested to avoid any other side effects such as an infection of the site.
Is PRP Hair Therapy Right for You?
The PRP hair rejuvenation treatment is a non-surgical treatment that takes just a few minutes of your time. Anyone who is experiencing hair loss is a suitable candidate. But those with early hair loss respond best to the treatment. The results of this treatment are astounding. You are an ideal candidate for this procedure if:
