When you think of Botox, what comes to mind? Most likely you think of Botox as a treatment to reduce fine lines and wrinkles associated with aging. The applications for Botox have expanded dramatically, it’s important to know all that can be accomplished with the help of Botox.

We’ve compiled a list of Innovative MedSpa’s 10 Things Botox Can Treat, Other than Signs of Aging.

1.  Treat Chronic Migraines

Anyone who experiences chronic migraines knows just how much they can affect your everyday life, hindering your ability to partake in even the most mundane tasks. Botox is proven to be effective in significantly reducing chronic migraines.

Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) works to block the neurotransmitters that carry pain signals from the brain. It stops the chemicals from reaching the nerve endings. During a Botox treatment for migraines, the nurse injector will strategically inject several units around the head and neck area and the treatment takes 30-45 minutes.

2.  Manage Acne

Botox is a good treatment option to help manage acne flare ups. It works to slow down oil production, which can reduce acne breakouts. Several units of botox are injected into the oily area of the skin, which helps promote clearer skin in conjunction with your diet and overall skincare regimen. Our skilled providers work with you to tailor a Botox dosage and at-home regimen. One of our all time favorite products for acne management is ZO Skin Health’s Oil Control Pads, a must-have for anyone who struggles with oily skin.

3.  Define Your Lips

You cannot miss lip flips on social media, they’re everywhere. If you’re looking to enhance your lips in a subtle way, a lip flip may be just what you need. During this procedure, your provider will inject Botox into a few parts of the upper lip, typically around the cupid’s bow. By deliberately injecting a few units into the upper lip, the lip will start to relax and flip upward showing more of the pink of your lip. This will give the lips some shape, as well as the illusion of fuller lips. A lip flip can also be paired with lip filler to help accentuate your results, as well as give your filler more longevity by booking these services intermittently.

4.  Mimic a Nose Job

You don’t need surgery to change the shape of your nose! Injecting a tiny amount of Botox/Dysport to the nose can diminish nasal flaring, as well as slim its overall appearance. Botox works to relax the muscle that is responsible for pulling the tip of the nose downward, giving the illusion of a slightly slimmer nose. The results typically last 3-4 months for most patients.

5.  Lift Your Brows

Here’s another one you may have seen swirling around the internet – the Botox Brow Lift. The Botox Brow Lift is a treatment that works to relax the frontalis muscle. This facial muscle is responsible for pulling the eyebrows downward. Strategically injecting a few units into this area is an effective way to create a lifting effect. This treatment typically lasts anywhere from 3-6 months, depending on the patient.

6.  Relieve Temporomandibular Joint Pain (TMJ and Bruxism)

People with bruxism are subject to habitual teeth grinding, often experiencing the severe symptoms associated with TMJ. One of the most common causes of TMJ is excessive strain on the jaw joints and muscles that are in charge of our chewing, swallowing and speech functions. Botox injections work to relax the masseter muscles, relieving tension due to undesirable grinding and clenching. A patient will typically need at least 30 units on each side of the face to effectively treat this condition. Treatment typically lasts 3-4 months.

7.  Tighten Jowls

Jowls is a term used to describe the sagging skin beneath your chin or jawline due to the loss of elasticity in the skin over time. By injecting generous amounts of Botox units to each side of your jawline, we are able to recontour the face. The jaw will gradually narrow as the Botox starts to take effect, pulling back the excess skin for a more youthful appearance.

8.  Curb Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Underarm Sweating)

Similar to curbing the oil production that causes acne, Botox can be used to target oil production that causes excessive underarm sweating, or hyperhidrosis. Botox injections use botulinum toxin to block the nerve signals responsible for sweating, stopping the sweat glands from producing too much sweat. According to the International Hyperhidrosis Society, underarm Botox injections can reduce underarm sweating by 82–87%.

9.  Reduce Oily Scalp

Unfortunately an excess of oil on the scalp can contribute to many unpleasant conditions, particularly dandruff. For those who experience oily scalp, Botox as one of your treatment options may help. Units are injected into the scalp as a short-term solution to help curb oil production. The injections block communication between nerves and sweat glands, stopping production of perspiration. Less oil on your scalp means fewer wash days.

10.  Soften Jawline and Chin

Injections of Botox or Dysport can elongate your jawline, giving it more of a “V” shape. The units can help to partially relax the muscles, known as masseters. This slims the chin and jawline area, giving you a more slender appearance.
